About my Hiatus
The Hat Was Hung… Until Now
2024 marked the ten-year anniversary of when I made and sold my first hat. For a full decade, every Halloween was hectic, stressful, and overwhelming. I’ve made so many black witch hats that the thought of creating another used to make my soul shrink. That’s why I took a much-needed hiatus—to step back, catch my breath, and reconnect with myself as an artist rather than a nonstop production machine.
Now, in 2025, I’m temporarily back—just for a little while. I’ll be accepting a very limited number of Halloween orders for the entire season. This isn’t a full return, and I still don’t expect to take on the volume I once did—but a small part of me missed the magic, and I’m returning to it on my own terms.
I kept going for so long because it was my family’s main source of income, but thankfully, that’s no longer the case. It’s just as well, since sales took a major hit after the pandemic. I don’t blame anyone—when times are tight, a fancy witch hat understandably falls low on the list.
Taking a break was necessary, even though it’s been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Letting go of something that defined me for so long felt like a loss, but it also opened up space for something new. This brief return is a small, joyful step back into that creative space—with boundaries, clarity, and a whole lot more breathing room.
Temporally?
Plans for a Permanent Return?
It’s a bit of both. I’m easing back into making hats on my own terms—following the creative pull. Over the next year, I’ll be crafting as many original designs as I can, releasing each one when it’s ready. You can find them announced on Instagram, Facebook, and in my newsletter (so make sure you’re signed up if you’d like a heads-up).
